    Re: Where are you

Trying to stay out of the heat !!!! Been working to hard & too much , to hot & dry to hunt . Read a very interesting article on DNA testing , I`ll have  to see if I can find a link or post about the information it gives. The way it reads though we ould probably never really know what was bred into the Lacy as they have been around for so long. I`ll get back to you on that.

    Re: Where are you

Tom you read my mind.  I've been thinking the same thing.  No one on line chatting.

Well I had good intentions about coon hunting but am now on my third spotlight.  The first two were defective; hence I missed last weekend.  BUT I got one yesterday that works and charged it last night.  So, can anyone give me some hints about hunting coons.  They are getting into my friends garden so I know where they are.  I just don't know about when they are active.

And I was planning on using a 4-10 but perhaps a .22 would be better??  Have never shot anything with Amos and Otis so I'm hoping that they don't hall a** towards home.....  Perhaps if I find a coon and get it treed I should leash them before shooting.  Any advice??

    Re: Where are you

I, too, have been missing reading many new posts, but then ya'll like me maybe just are enjoying the lazydays of summer, and don't have much to say - on the other hand, maybe you are just too busy to post on your busy lives.

I am glad that "Dustybritches" had no major injuries from her cow encounter excitement.

    Re: Where are you

Lisa, I second that.  I know I have spoke to many that post and all have been spending time with the grandkids or taking their vacation times for the summer.  We have had visitors being activated for their 30 day trail period on a daily bases.  Five just yesterday.

Rebecca, I would start shooting your 22 around your property.  This way the dogs start getting use to it.  If they seem it bothers them, I would have someone else shoot at least 40 yards away and have a treat ready in your hand for after the shot.  When they associate the gun noise isn't going to hurt them, and they get a treat, all is usually well after that.

    Re: Where are you

Thanks Marlo.  That's easy enough to do right away; as in this afternoon.  Perhaps if I can hit a squrrill then that will speed along the process!

    update:

My husband is making fun of me since I'm dying to go coon hunting since that is all that I'm, me personally that is, can do with my dogs.  He's not a hunter needless to say.   With Marlo's advice I got out the .22 just a little while ago and shot off a bunch of rounds.  Dogs didn't run but tried to climb up me.  They were nervous about the gun cause the only other time they've seen it or smelled it or heard one was my hysterical episode with the  5'  13 button rattler off the back porch last year.  If the rain will hold off I'm going to make the rounds to the neighbor's garden this evening.

    Re: Where are you

I'm here too. Grandson staying the summer here from Ruidoso and another Grandson playing ball on the allstar team, I'm about wore out!!! Rode gocarts and hit in a batting cage yesterday plus 36 holes of miniature golf. Hopefully things will slow back to a normal sub hectic pace soon.

    Later Y'all!!!!!

    Re: Where are you

I'm here too.  Had a nice 4th of July with the family and all of the fireworks. Followed immediately by the arrival of my newest granddaughter at 5:30 a.m. July 5.

Our next little hunter (3 yr old Sophia) was in training on the 4th.   She found the water guns and got her older cousins to load them up.  I wish you could have seen her and her older cousin (Liz, 20), having a running water battle with the guys.   Liz would tell her to hid beind a bush, duck down, etc.  The laughing and giggling was wonderful.  I'm sure that Liz will be showing Sophia how to find the signs of hog slides along the fence line soon.

    Re: Where are you

we enjoyed the 4th, showing off our Lacy dogs at our community parade and fireworks display.

We were pleased with how well they did with both.

Last year we stayed in for the 4th, recovering from our long trip to get them and adjusting to 2 baby puppies.  Lots has changed in the past year.

    Re: Where are you

Hope everyone had a great 4th, just got back in from NC and riding the " The Tail of the Dragon". 11 miles & 318 curves , talk about a rush . Then came through 128 miles of rain on the way home, that was rough but made it home safe. Robin had to peel me out of my leather, could hardley even stand but kicking back today & back to work in the morning.
