Back at it...well..in between hunts of course

Well...I couldn't take it anymore.  We went back to Flyball the other day and had a blast!!  I am going to start Toby on the basics but I want to focus more on dock diving for his summer fun!  Remi took to it like we had been going every weekend.  I need to do more targeting work again and I really want to get her on the box soon!  The dogs love it out there and it is great socializing so we are going to try to start going regularly again.

Anybody else doing anything out there aside from hunting??

I am waiting to do frisbee with Pearl after she is old enough to have adult teeth and not hurt herself jumping.  I am interested in herding, too.

How do you go about training for frisbee??  I think that would be a great physical and mental exercise!

There are lots of frisbee dog clubs, probably one near you!  There are DVDs and videos for sale, and stuff on YouTube.  You start by rolling the frisbee on its edge for the dog to chase.  You can encourage the dog to bring it to you by calling the dog and then running away from him.  Then you can make short low flying  tosses past the dog encouraging him to chase it.  Don't throw the frisbee directly at the dog's head, at least not in early training.  After that you can make longer throws.

To wear the dog out you can have 2 people playing keepaway with the frisbee, or you can throw the frisbee and when the dog is returning with it have another ready to throw.

Most of the clubs have Toss and Fetch competitions, where you are timed and get more points for if the dog has all 4 feet off the ground, and how far the throw is.  They also have Freestyle with all the fancy tricks and flips. I never had a dog to do freestyle with,  I've always wanted to try it.  They have to put their feet on you for some of the tricks and my one dog wouldn't do it and the other had hip dysplasia so no jumping for him!
