Before You Buy a Blue Lacy...

Dig, Dig and Dig somemore.  I have looked through quite a few websites over the past 4 or so months.  It has led me back here due to the fact the information I received was accurate and truthful.  Which brings me to my story.  I have been reading in another Lacy forum that starts with the letter "A", and everything sounded great.  After asking for information on the up and coming litters and requesting specific information on the Sire and Dam I was told,"I don't post pedigrees on my site because so many Texas people are stealing pedigree information so they can register cross bred dogs in their registries."  That made me go Hmmm...to myself.  Didn't all the stock come from Texas?!?  Later I was sent what was called a picture pedigree.  I have bought registered dogs before and this wasn't my first Rodeo so I responded that I would still like a pedigree to know what decendants were in the mix.  This is when this woman got defensive and told me,"Of all the backyard breeders in Texas, she was not one them."  And that I should go back and look at all she did with her puppies, yada, yada, yada.  All I ask for was proof of decendants in a pedigree before I sent $900.00 for a puppy.  So I did go back to the website.  She says her dogs are all OFA certified...wrong...there is one blue lacy listed with the Orthopedic Foundation for Dogs and that one is from Texas... (573)442-0418...called em...talked to Carol.  She says her dogs are all CERF tested...wrong...there is one listed...also from Texas.  (217) 693-4800...called em...talked to Carol.  I'm thinking man these Texas backyard breeders got it goin' on!  She says that her organization is close to being approved in the FSS program... (919)233-9767...yep you guessed again...wrong...talked to Christina...report said they were denied indefinately.  I found through further research the LGDR is the original registry and has health records on file and all I have to do is ask and they send them to me.  Man what a concept honesty and no HOOPLA to cover up dishonesty.  Ya'll Texans should be proud of your organization.

Re: Before You Buy a Blue Lacy...

My husband and I are from Mississippi and are VERY PROUD to be a part of this (TLGDA) organization.  At this time we have 2 Blue Lacys that are registered with the LGDR, and are about to get our third in Feb.  I must tell you that we researched TX Blue Lacys for a while and Marlo and the LGDR saved us a lot of grief and an almost mishap.  My husband is in the Outfitter business in IL and is serious about blood tracking.  And we have some very serious LGDR registered blood tracking dogs. We’ve learned so much about the breed and breeding standards from the members.  But the trustworthy friends we’ve made through participating in the play days and blood trailing seminars couldn’t be bought for any price.  You can also see some of the best Blue Lacys on the planet at the events. LGDR is the original and ONLY Blue Lacy registry in my book.

Welcome to the board!  I am glad your search brought you to post and share with us, but I am sad to hear what you encountered as well.  This saddens my heart to hear when practices like these are going on.

It has been very busy for me lately, but if you ever need anything feel free to call or email and I will get back with you.  Maybe your post will help someone else not be mislead in the future.  Thank you for providing resource numbers as well.  I think all need to be able to research for themselves and not just take someones word for it.  Get active and informed when you are looking for a pup.  Sounds like it really paid off in your case.

CNTOO, I am also very happy for you and Cliff.  You are doing a great job with Jazz and Jones and would make any breeder happy to have sold you a pup.  I am also glad you did your research and when things didn't sound just right, you checked it out on your own.

We have great Members, Breeders, Elected Officers and Board Members that are always willing to talk and help in any way possible.  I am very glad to be a part of this Association and show my support as well.  I too feel honored to have made so many lasting friendship that will last a lifetime.

Simular stories had started being reported to the LGDR and June 1, 2009 this alert was posted on the registeries website.

I would like to commend you on looking into that organization before purchasing a pup.  Many people would have said "Sounds great, ship me three of them!"  However, I have to say that I would like to see the pup make a golden poo before I even considered paying $900 for it.  If you "dig, dig, and dig somemore" you will find many things incorrect even in places who claim to be the one and original.

A claim is an assertion of a right that is warranted by proof.  And the documented proof should be traceable back to an organizations direct link with the original founders of a dog breed.  I have seen the documented proof and those documents are open record for anyone to view.  The TLGDA lobbied in Austin with the support and help of some of its members to get the Texas Blue Lacy Game Dog recognized as the "State Dog of Texas".  Without these members taking their own time and effort it wouldn't have happened.  That is "Clout", when Lacy family members will hold hands if you will, with the TLGDA and the LGDR.  Differing opinions are and have always been a part of any dog community.  It comes with a passion for a particular breed.  However misrepresenting information or certifications in order to make more profit are quite another story.

Re: Before You Buy a Blue Lacy...

I ditto what others have said.  Lucky for me, I found this site and this group 1st so I avoided all the "bad folks".  I could not have asked for a better pup than Stella who is now almost 1 1/2 years old and that is a big order having had my previous dalmation for 14 years.  Took me 2 years to be able to get another dog I was so torn up when I had to put him down.  Of course, sometimes I think they talked before Stella got here because at times some of what Stella does is so similar to what my Dal did it is uncanny.

Thanks for taking the time to post your experience so that others can learn as well.

Re: Before You Buy a Blue Lacy...

I'm glad I didn't have to jump threw hoops like that to find one. I guess I got lucky and I did some research. I will get to pick my first pup up the first week of March!

Mrs Sandy Harrell has been very helpful to me!

    Waylon:

I saw you are from Farmerville, LA.  Small world.  I practically spent half my childhood growing up in Spearsville, La.  I remember as a child going with my aunt to use the pay phone in Farmerville.  At that time (about 150 years ago) there was a grocery store, hardware store, a phone booth and a post office.  I hear Farmville has really grown up since then.
