Well, after at least three false starts, Jazz is coming into her first heat period. Cristi reported that she started bleeding on Saturday, and Jones is doing a great job of confriming it!
Since I am watching her closely at this point, I have to report that I have noticed something I wasn't expecting. She has developed a case of the jumping hoo-hah! It must be like a mare doing what they call winking, but that thing is in motion!
I have her crated, and Jones is standing on top! They are talking to each other, and I am sure he is saying, "Don't worry baby, I will break you out as soon as the mean old man gets distracted!" My original plan was to take Jazz on a trip to Illinois, but I can't leave right now. So, I guess we are in for a few interesting days...
Anyone wanna make suggestions? I am ready to listen!

If you do not want to breed them, then you just have to keep them seperated for two weeks. I have heard of some people putting diapers on them, <clears throat> Jeff. But the easiest for me is just keeping them seperate.

Cristi was liking the diaper idea... But, I explained that Jonesy would be delighted to tear it off like opening a present!
He reminds me of a teenager. Ready and willing, but not quite sure how to get her to consent!

Re: The real deal FINALLY!
diapers didn't work for us.
For our sanity, crating Jack was better than crating Kelci. (Our dogs are fully secured in the house with ceramic tile floors and outside with 10 feet fencing and locked gates- so we weren't worried about other dogs getting in or ours getting out.)
Believe it or not, I took both dogs walking together and as long as we kept moving, the 2 didn't get into any hanky-panky. During the car rides, it was a bit of a challenge keeping them apart - this last heat, at 2 years of age.
We have made it through Kelci's heat cycles, but have not looked forward to them. Even when we let them mate, Jack was tenacious and we had to crate the dogs at times to let/make them both rest. We've relaxed and been glad when the heat cycle was over.

Hey, I resemble that remark!!! I think that the "Cars" diapers work great... that was more or less a cleanup precaution then anything else. Cliff, I think that if you have a good handle on the hump monster and she has a diaper of some sort then you shouldnt have too much trouble with them together in the house. If you do use a diaper for the sake of letting her out and not being caged up all the time, I would recommend the diaper over bitches britches and a maxi pad. I have had way better luck on the diapers, just make sure that when you cut the hole for the tail its about 5"s from the top, the alternative is to cut it low so its not snug and you can get a real good laugh over it, I used a 3-4T pull-up.

Ummm, as I understand it, this is how I got Ranger from Lily! Bonnie came into her first heat and Tracer 'got around' all Lily's best laid plans. The males are just WAY more persistant than you can imagine!!

Haha.... I know persistent! But, Jonesy is gonna have separation anxiety rather than get to enjoy himself this time!

Bonnie came out of my Calamity Jane and she is well known for breaking INTO Tuff's kennel for a little nookie at nite!! Lacys have a HIGH reproduction instinct. Keep an eye on Jones. And Jazz. Its like having teenagers who just discovered the other sex!!

Re: The real deal FINALLY!
Today is number eleven, and she still won't stand for him. He is giving her a hard time (no pun intended), but she is growling and fighting him off when I let them out together!
They are not going unsupervised for at least another week, cause we are not having any accidents here... I am alternating yard time, and crate time, for both of them. Being a chaperone is not fun!

Re: The real deal FINALLY!
Hey Clifford,
When you do breed them what do expect their pups to be colored as? I've never seen two reds bred so I have no idea what would happen.....what color are their parents and grandparents?

Re: The real deal FINALLY!
I expect a litter of the most beautiful reds ever born, and possibly a cream, with a slight chance of blues, and maybe a tri...
Jazz's mom was a tri, her dad was blue.
Jones is out of two blues.

Re: The real deal FINALLY!
Please, please put me on your list, if you have one, for a cream/red or a tri female!! Well I'm being presumptuous regarding who will make the cut for pups.
With that color variation in their background it will be like a box of chocolates!

Re: The real deal FINALLY!
I believe there are some restrictions about selling to another person who already owns Lacys, involving checking the lineage of your dogs, to insure that no possibility of line breeding exists.
Besides, you haven't been subjected to my interview process yet...
Are you a HOG DOGGER?
Did you really like Michael Jackson?
I have many questions... Oh..... The power!!!!
