Dusty Britches:Melanie, I think dove is talking about the cheap collars. The good ones will work for much greater distances, even in the trees, hills, etc. Tri-Tronics makes a great e-collar.
Thank you, You hit it right on the head!!! It was intended for those who do not have collars, was curious about a good collar, was looking at getting one... I have had a couple people ask me so I decided I would put it out in the open for discussion with a link for those had questions.

Thanks Jeff,
I was at least one of the folks who asked you about the e-collar. I got a reply from Ben too and he told me the model he is using. That's the one I was thinking of investing in already. He did mention getting the same one he uses but has the extended range. Along the same line as your suggestion. They make the one like Ben's but with the two mile range rating. I'm sure thinking about that one and adding the new laser lights that they have to go with them. That light sounds like it would sure be helpful in night time cattle work (rare for me but it has happened). hehe.
I appreciate for the input.
Jimbo
PS: I think that system, set up for two dogs is near to the $600 mark.

Jeff, this is the one I was thinking about but adding a second collar right now. Then I could order other collars if or as needed. Right now I only run two dogs anyway for cow work. With the second collar it runs right at the 600 dollar mark from what I've been able to find on the web.
Does anyone else have a recomendation as to what has worked well for them in the way of an e-collar?

Jimbo, I have found that it is best to slip it around her neck gently when she is sleeping... But, make sure you have that control in your hand when she wakes up!!! And, for goodness sake, make sure you have fresh batteries!!! They tend to fight it at first... But, with time, you can have cold beer delivered right to your recliner!
On dogs, it really doesn't matter that much...

Clifford,
You probably should have turned that sensitivity setting back a little bit at first, hehe. You talk a mean fight amigo but I saw that little whip she had in the pickup for you. I ain't fooled. LMBO!!
I probably will keep mine hidden for the same reason but in reverse that you described.
Later Pard,
Jimbo
