Getting rid of skunk smell

    Getting rid of skunk smell

    I have a pack of dogs that decided to fight a skunk last night.  What's the best way to wash the stink off of them?

    1/4 cup of baking soda, 1 quart of Hydrogen peroxide, and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap (Dawn works best). Sponge on dry dog, hose off without waiting. (do not wet the dog first!)
     
    Works on bedding and clothes too. On occasion, the peroxide will bleach the hair a little, but that is nothing compared to the stench. The quart of peroxide is sometimes hard to find, so I keep a full quart one hand for immediate application.  Wal-Mart carries it by the quart.

    The sooner you do it after they get sprayed, the better it works.  If all else fails, imho, shave the hair off the dog.  Big Smile

    It worked great! A heck of a lot better than tomato paste thats for sure.

    Ok cull, glad the dogs are all smelling pretty now but got to know......did ya get the skunk caught ???  Ick!Big Smile

    Sorry but had a good laugh , one of those unseen things that only happen on a hog hunt, lol

    This is the best product you will ever find.

    Not in stores, only on the internet.  A few of you who know me know Rick and Erika who are our neighbors, and are the ones who were so kind to donate all the books

    that we took to the Senators/Congressman for the pushing of the Legislation.  Anyway, Rick and Erika have 2 LABS and those crazy labs got totally skunked the other night.

    This stuff that Rick bought is biodegrable, non toxic, will not hurt animals, and I mean it, WORKS IN SECONDS.  He put this stuff on them and literally within seconds those

    dogs did not smell.  AND I MEAN IT, before that WHOA NELLIE..............THEY WERE BAD...

    I want to tell you this really does work and very quickly I might add.  The AC went out at my house and Marlo said come on over in sleep in the "cool".  Well 95 degrees in the house I didn't say no! Came time to go to bed and we heard Scout out back barking like crazy went to let him and the other dogs in and you guessed it, TOTALLYskunked!  Scout was the only one that got sprayed. Marlo had all of the stuff to make this magically skunk wash and went to work on Scout.   With in minutes, the odor was gone.  This "skunk wash" left Scout smelling fresh and clean!

    Follow the instruction just like Dusty listed in her post!  She is right Dawn is the best!

    Dee is exactly right!  Think goodness I had all the stuff to make the solution already at my house.  I wonder if the Dawn was for the nice smell, but when I actually used it, realized the importance of the Dawn.  When you mix it up, it looks watery.  I got my sponge out and dipped it into the solution.  When I started rubbing it into Scouts coat, it then was like shampoo.  Lather and all!  This is what the Dawn does.  It makes the solution lather and you can make sure you get the whole dog covered.  I would suggest washing it off, as soon as you finish lathering.  The second he was lathered, the smell as gone.  Great and easy stuff.

    I don't know, but I've been told Dawn works best for this because it is the best at breaking up oils.

     

    But, I'm glad it worked.  Another satisfied customer.  ;)
