    100% Blue Lacy

I took Stryker into Producers co-op in Bryan yesterday because it was too dern hot to leave him in the truck.  A few minutes after we walked in, a lady excitedly said, "oh what a cute Weim - Lab and something cross!!!"  "He's, what, 50% Weim and a lab crossed with what?"  By then, 2 teenaged girls were petting him.

I said, "Well actually, he's 100% Blue Lacy.  He is the State Dog of Texas."

She said, "At least you didn't dock his tail."

"Um, well, their tails aren't supposed to be docked."

She said, "And he's just a puppy!  How much bigger will he get?"

I smiled, "Actually, he's almost 2 years old.  He's fully grown."

She said, "OH!  Well thanks for letting us pet him.  I really needed that to brighten up your day."  Then she walked away.

    I muttered, "You're batting a zero, Lady."

    Re: 100% Blue Lacy

    That's quite funny!!

I also constantly get the weim and/or lab puppy comments. The funny thing is, especially up here in Michigan, when I explain to people that Gracie is a Blue Lacy I either get the ones that are totally intrigued because they have never heard of the breed or the ones that think I must be either making the breed up or be mistaken (especially since Gracie is a red).

I get the same thing all the time. The exact same thing. Most the comments I receive are where did you get your Weim? I really want one but can 't find a breeder, can you help me find a breeder? And I also get wow what a cute puppy....Roush is 2 1/2. It just never fails. The best part is now that I am in Texas and tell people it's the state dog of texas, they say "oh okay", like I am lying. Oh well. Nothing against Weims but I sure love my Lacy....

I'm glad you brightened her day.   Sounds like she was a bit of dim bulb.

    Re: 100% Blue Lacy

I hate to admit it, but the first time I saw a Lacy was last year. I also thought it was a Weim cross.

Well, now I know better. ;)

That's okay, Jimmy.  I had never seen a real live one until I went to pick up Ladybug.  I had never heard of them until I stumbled across them while researching my Lacy family history.  I HAD to have one (really, she has me).  My family got tired of me showing the photo from the web of Tom's Sarge.  I kept telling them "I'm getting a dog like this"..  I did and life hasn't been the same since.

    Re: 100% Blue Lacy

I had about trained the good people here in my small town about Blue Lacys.  Of course it helps that I teach and take them to class occasionally, so all the kids in town know my dogs. But now, Ive gotten Yellow Rose who is a red.  That has confused everyone in town, because they think Ive now gotten either a) a small lab or b)  a pitbull cross.  LOL   "Learning never ends in West Texas!!! "

    Re: 100% Blue Lacy

I get all sorts of questions, and have kind of become anti-social at the dog park because I don't like having to explain and have people just say "oh", or "is that a designer breed."  Besides, my dogs just like to run and look for critters, they really don't care to hang with dogs and sniff butts too much.

The first Lacy I had seen was 3 years ago when I started dating my current girlfriend who had one.  I fell in love with the dog (and my girlfriend of course) and had to get a lacy pup of my own.  I thought we had the only Lacy's up here until I saw one last summer that was out of MO, and we just saw a new pup from one of Shawn Cockrell's litters last week at the dog park in south Minneapolis.  Both Lacy's looked really nice, but I did notice some differences (their hair was longer, less coarse, and more of a gray blue, and they had more of a round head rather than square.)  I guess there is a little variation in the breeds, as all lines are a little different.

Anyway, if you only could have been in my head when that lacy came around the corner last week.  I was thinking it was my dog, but then common sense kicked in and I said to myself "my dog is not wearing a red collar."
